The Dutchman will make it to the end of the 2022 season.
Team Jumbo-Visma cyclist Tom Dumoulin has announced that he will finish his career at the end of the 2022 season.
The 31-year-old Dutchman complained that his body is struggling to perform at the highest level.
“It hasn’t been an easy road in which my body felt and still feels tired. As soon as the workload in training or racing gets higher, I suffer from malaise, aches and injuries instead of strengthening,” Dumoulin wrote.
“The team and I will develop a plan to squeeze out as much as we can in the final months. I’m especially looking forward to the World Championships in Australia, where I hope to produce my best result in the sectional last time.”
For his career, Dumoulin won the overall title at the 2017 Giro d’Italia and was the 2017 World Champion in the sectional.
The Dutchman also has three Tour de France stage victories, four at the Giro and two at the 2015 Vuelta.
Last January, Dumoulin claimed a pause in his professional career before returning to the peloton in May.
